Magnet nabs U.S. privileges to 'Goon'

Magnet Delivering, genre arm to Magnolia Pictures, has had US privileges to Michael Dowse's hockey comedy "Goon."Deal was introduced early Tuesday morning in the Toronto Intl. Film Festival. "Goon" opened Friday at TIFF.The film is created by No Trace Camping's David Gross and Jesse Shapira, Don Carmody, and Jay Baruchel.Pic stars Seann William Scott like a mild-mannered hockey enforcer together with Baruchel, Liev Schreiber and Alison Pill. Baruchel and Evan Goldberg pennned the script.Scott plays a dumb but loveable bar bouncer plucked from obscurity to become the enforcer for any minor league hockey team. Magnet plans an earlier 2012 theatrical release included in Magnolia's Ultra VOD program.The seven figure deal was discussed by Magnolia SVP of Purchases Dori Begley and Mind of Legal and Business Matters Chris Matson with CAA, attorney James Feldman and Kirk D'Amico of Myriad Pictures.
